This Gluten Free Soy Free “Soy Sauce” will add extra flavor to any stir fry and has that missing Asian flavor without the use of soy.
If you have an allergy to soy, I have a gift for you! Two actually. One is my easy version of a Soy-Free soy sauce and the other is the passing on a there is a commercially made a soy-free sauce. Today is a BIG win for food allergies. 😀
I’ve been really missing Asian food lately and soy sauce. There are plenty of gluten free soy sauces out there, but it’s almost impossible to find a soy-less or soy free sauce that really tastes like the real thing. I’ve finally taken the time to measure all the ingredients I have been using before we found the coconut-aminos. This easy soy sauce comes together so quickly I never really measured the ingredients but merely mixed based on the memory of the taste of soy.
If you follow me on Facebook, you probably saw the Coconut Amino- Soy Free soy sauce I found. I was super excited to get some really great feedback from those of you who’ve tried it and loved it. It’s fermented using coconut sap instead of soy. (If you have a coconut allergy (like we did) then this product wouldn’t be an option for you.)
So many people seemed very happy with the product and flavor. But the one thing many other people mentioned was the cost and inability to find it. By chance, I found the bottle on a shelf at my local grocery store. It was a difficult decision to buy due to the sheer cost of $13.99 for a 14 oz bottle.
I have a hard time spending that much on something my family may or may not like or be allergic to. In the end, I decided to try it and I’m glad I did since it was really good! It’s definitely not as salty or thick as a regular soy based sauce and doesn’t have that strange aftertaste bite like the gluten free soy sauces. We will continued to use it since it’s already
Since we’ve been excited to find an off the shelf sauce, we’ve gone through another bottle… Love it, but not the price. (All of the other allergy foods are pricey too which really adds up each month).
So here’s my super easy (and relatively cheap) version of soy less soy sauce.

When we Gluten Free – our best resource was a good Asian market. It takes a fair amount of label reading but when you have a choice of 10-15 types of soy sauce at the store, we always found one that was gluten free. Usually we could get big bottles for around $5. Because we only made it to the store every 6 months or so, we were always having to read labels because it seemed like the brand we bought last time was gone.
The other thing we loved was the variety of rice noodles (and how inexpensive they were). I think it’s what allowed us to survive that time.

This looks great. Unfortunately my son can’t do molasses. Any suggestions on a substitute that may work well? Thanks.

Hi there! What is the shelf life of this recipe?
Laura says
Hi Mallory! Since this doesn’t have preservatives and isn’t ridiculously salty, I only keep it a week in the refrigerator. I also freeze individual portions in ice cube trays to grab when needed in small amounts. Hope that helps!
