Free Epi-pen Auto-injectors

August 11, 2015 by Laura Leave a Comment

Take advantage of the $0 Co-Pay card for up to 3 packs of epi-pen epinephrine  auto-injectors from the makers of Epi-pen and Auvi-Q.  Free anything is pretty amazing but a free epi-pen could just save your child’s life…

Disclosure: I am not in anyway affiliated with Mylan (maker of Epi-pen) or Sanofi (maker of Auvi-Q). This post is merely to inform readers of this free program. I like to save money and thought you might too.FREE Epi-pen injectors program from Epi-pen and Auvi-Q- petiteallergytreats

It’s that time of year again with school just around the corner!  There is so much excitement as the next school year starts…AND panic.

As a food allergy parent, every year we go through the same stressful cycle:

1. Meet the new teacher (the one you will trust your child’s life with on a daily basis).

2. Have that awkward talk with any staff, student and parent that food really will kill your child… and do try and deliver the message as nice but as firm as possible (‘Cause you wouldn’t want to be labeled as an overbearing, helicopter or difficult parent, right? Riiight. 😛 )

3. Provide an emergency action plan to the school for food allergy related emergencies.

4. Fill out medial worksheets to allow an auto injector in your classroom/school. (Our school form makes the doctor’s office sign and fax permissions)

5. Pick up new epi-pens, keeping an eye on expiration dates to ensure they make it through the full school year.

There’s a bunch more (like stock your freezer with special treats so your child isn’t the only one without a cupcake) but these are the basics.

The one thing I would really like to share is how you can get 3 packs of auto injectors FREE from both Auvi-Q and Epi-pen.  Right now you can go to each site and download a $0 Co-pay card.  That means you depending upon your insurance, you can pay NOTHING for 3 packs of auto-injectors.  Nothing. Free.  Zero.

So what’s the catch?

You need to have insurance to be eligible for this program.  (That part seems a bit wrong since those that cannot afford insurance are truly the ones in need of a free auto-injector, right? Just saying…)

If you have insurance, you can get the $0 co-pay card for each family member that has a prescription.  I have 2 boys, so I filled out the forms twice and printed 2 cards with different numbers.

Take those cards to the pharmacy and have them enter them into their system.  Make sure you mention the card each time you pick up a prescription to ensure the pharmacy applied the card.

It’s important to note your insurance company will still be billed for regular price of each auto injector.  This is important if you have a lifetime dollar limit to medical coverage per family member.  The savings to you comes from reducing the Co-Pay.  Everyone has a different co-pay amount designated by their insurance.

For example our copay is $25 for an epi-pen jr and both boys need new ones.  When the card is applied, it canceled out my co-pay to $0 and I saved $50 dollars!  I ended up paying $0, but my insurance was still billed the full amount.

We have both Auvi-Q and Epi-pen injectors.  The cost for each varies greatly and not all insurances will cover the Auvi-Q yet.  If you are not familiar with the ‘talking injector’, the Auvi-Q, I have a demo video you can watch here and here on Instagram.  It’s pretty cool.

The programs are set to expire December 31, 2015 but… last year it was all set to expire the same time.  They may extend it again past this deadline.  So you may not have to go out and grab all 3 sets now.

Head over to the site for more information.  I am not an expert for sure.  And although this may appear as an Ad, it’s not.  I wanted you to be aware of this program since I missed out most of last year and only found out after friend told me about it.

I am that friend, telling you about it now.  Eventually, you’ll need a new auto injector (and hopefully only because it expired) so why not save some money when you can?

Get the cards:
